  • Student Choir


    Officially founded in September 2015, the Student Choir of Nanjing Tech University is the youngest member of the student art troupe on campus, with one full-time instructor, 80 existing members, and four vocal parts in singing.

    Since its foundation, the Student Choir has been improving its management and vocal performance, thus its singing has been improved and mastered many classic repertoires such as NanjingTech Song, Rainbow, Greetings from the Grassland, Joyful Naadam, Nostalgia, You raise me up, and Those Years. The stage performance has been improved by direct performing instead of practicing. And one Acappella group has been formed.

    The choir has won many provincial and international awards in competitions. In June 2016, the choir won the silver medal in the singing competition In Commemoration of the 95th Anniversary of the Founding of the CPC held in Pukou District, and in July, the choir participated in the special performance of Ode to the CPC, the 2nd performance on the effectiveness of student financial aid in Jiangsu Province. In April 2017, the choir was awarded the special prize in the small chorus group and the first prize in the large chorus group in the 5th College Student Art Performance Competition in Jiangsu Province, and in August, the choir won three gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals in the 9th Singapore International Arts Festival and Competition. In the same year, the choir performed in the opening ceremony for the 2017 World Roller Games Championships in September. In November 2018, the choir participated in the Listening to Jiangnan Wang Jianyuan Choral Concert, which was one of Jiangsu Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles Masterpieces of Celebrities Projects. In May 2019, the choir performed in the Faith’s Song College Student Art Performance in Nanjing. In November 2020, the choir won the special prize in the small chorus group and the second prize in the large chorus group in the 6th College Student Art Performance Competition in Jiangsu Province.

     

     

     

     

  • Chinese Instruments Orchestra

    The Chinese Instruments Orchestra of Nanjing Tech University was founded in November 2014, composed of 1 full-time instructor and more than 70 existing members of different majors who are traditional culture lovers and have experience in playing Chinese instruments. The orchestra has bowed stringed instruments, plucked instruments, wind instruments, and percussion instruments.

    With the mission of promoting Chinese folk music and demonstrating the elegant image of NanjingTech students, the orchestra actively participates in various performances inside and outside the university, such as the Evening Party for Freshmen, the New Year Concert, and High Art into Campus. In 2015 and 2016, the orchestra participated in cultural tours in the Confucius Institute among three African countries and Spain with the student art troupe, which was warmly received by people from all walks of life, overseas Chinese people and the media.

    The orchestra has participated in many domestic and foreign competitions. In the 7th Singapore International Chinese Orchestra Arts Festival in 2015, the orchestra won a silver and a bronze medal, and in the following year, the orchestra won two gold and two silver medals in the 8th Singapore International Chinese Ethnic Musical Instrumental Competition with the ensemble “Castle in the Sky”, “Rain Breaks in Jiangnan”, the repertoire “Dance of the Yao People ” and the solo “Erhu Rhapsody No.3”, “Robe of Clouds”. In 2017, the folk music repertoire “Charm of Jiangnan” was awarded the second prize of the instrumental repertoire group A in the 5th College Student Art Performance Competition of Jiangsu Province, and in 2020, the Guzheng repertoire “Shaohua Danqing” won the second prize of the instrumental repertoire group A in the 6th College Student Art Performance Competition of Jiangsu Province.

    As a bright spot to promote Chinese traditional culture, the orchestra actively carries out the second classroom education project “Folk Music and Poetry”, which not only cultivates college students’ appreciation of art and aesthetics, enhances national self-confidence, and encourages students to carry forward Chinese traditional music culture, but also builds a stage for NanjingTech students who love folk music to show their talents and specialties. Positive, elegant, and healthy culture and art have been deeply rooted in campus life, whilst the comprehensive implementation of the aesthetic education and the comprehensive quality of engineering college students have been improved.

     

  • Dance Troupe

    The Dance Troupe of Nanjing Tech University was founded in 2006, and is now a provincial college student art group. There is 1 full-time instructor and 80 existing members. Since its foundation, the dance troupe has held large-scale performances on and off campus, creating several elaborate dance repertoires and giving wonderful performances.

    The dance troupe won the first prizes in the 5th College Students’ Cultural Festival (“New Arirang Carol”), the 2nd, 3rd and 4th College Student Art Performance Competition of Jiangsu Province with Mongolian Bowl Dance, Red Violet, and Flowers Blooming respectively. It has held special performances several times, and created more than 30 special programs such as “Beautiful Girls”, “Peacock Dance”, “Wolf Totem”, “A Gamu”, “Peacock Flies”, “Gorgeous Girls”, and “Peach Blossoms Beam”.

    The dance troupe participated in several summer social practices for developing culture in rural areas such as Ganan, Jiangyin, and Binhu. The troupe has also performed at home and abroad, including the welcome ceremony of the athletes village of the 2nd Asian Youth Games (“Jasmine Flower” and “Youth Nanjing”), the “We are Jiangsu Youth” activity commemorating the centenary of the May Fourth Movement in Jiangsu Province. In addition, the dance troupe went to six Confucius Institutes in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia and gave the performances “Houyi and Chang’e”, “Thousand-Hand Bronzemen”, “Flowers Blooming” and “The Game” there. The dance troupe actively promotes aesthetic education on campus, and has performed in the university’s Evening Party for Freshmen, Graduation Party, Alumni Reunion and other large-scale activities for many years, and has been well received by teachers and students.

    At present, the dance troupe has been gradually built into an outstanding college student art troupe with mature professional skills and a high reputation in Jiangsu Province, and will continue to build up the university’s “Art and Aesthetics” project and contribute to setting up a high-level university campus cultural environment.

     

  • Modern Drama Troupe

    The modern drama troupe of Nanjing Tech University was founded in 2010 and is now a provincial college student art group. It is composed of one instructor and more than 50 members. The concept of the troupe is to show campus life in the form of literature and art and to carry out various activities. It aims to promote the quality-oriented education, prosper the campus culture, and improve the comprehensive skills of the students.

    Over the past 11 years, the troupe has established a sound management scheme and rehearsal system, which enhanced the discipline and team spirit of the troupe, and strengthened the troupe’s talent echelon construction. The troupe has stayed close to the students both on and off campus to promote the ideology and policies of the Communist Party of China and the university, and to promote the artistic and cultural traditions of the Chinese nation. Regular training and performances have been conducted as well.

    Under the leadership of the instructor, the troupe conducts weekly basic skills training and daily rehearsals, and performs programs annually. Basic skills training starts with five aspects: lines; body shape; body language; observation; and imagination, including vocal warm-ups; recitation; tongue twisters; body contouring exercises and ligament exercises. In the daily rehearsals, the troupe has created skits that can show the campus culture and are suitable for performances, exchange and competition. On the basis of skits and sketch comedies, the troupe further develops musical sketch comedies, poetry recitation, stage plays and other performance forms.

    A Chinese idiom acknowledges that “one minute on the stage needs ten years of practice off stage.”, and the troupe’s efforts paid off in that respect. The original sketch comedy Ant Warriors and Mission Impossible won the first prize in the 4th and 6th College Student Art Performance Competition respectively, and won the Excellent Creation Award. Besides, the troupe also won the first prizes in the drama group and recitation group many times in the College Student Art Performance Competition of Jiangsu Province.

    Many plays of the troupe have been listed as Jiangsu Province Elegant Art into Campus Project, and have been performed at Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing Normal University Zhongbei College, Nanjing Institute of Technology, and other universities. In recent years, more than ten members have been admitted to prestigious universities such as the University of Sussex, the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, and Nanjing University to study for master’s degrees in drama and film majors, thus embarking on artistic careers.


  • Symphony Orchestra

    The Symphony Orchestra of Nanjing Tech University, now a member of Jiangsu Province Institute of Music, was founded in August 2011. It is a provincial college student art group, and vice-chair of  the Instrumental Music Union of the College Students Art Group of Jiangsu Province. In 2017 and 2020 it was named by Jiangsu Provincial Education Department as the “Symphony Orchestra of the College Students Art Group of Jiangsu Province.”

    The orchestra has one full-time instructor and nearly 90 members, with a full range of vocal parts and sufficient training space, as well as a saxophone chamber,  clarinet chamber, and string chamber music group.

    Since its foundation, the orchestra has won the first prize and the special prize in the instrumental group in the 4th, 5th and 6th College Student Art Performance Competitions of Jiangsu Province, and the second prize in instrumental music in the 5th National College Student Art Performance Competition in 2018. In addition, the orchestra has also won first prize in the Non-Professional Wind Orchestra Competition of Jiangsu Province, the gold medal in the general college ensemble group of the Singapore International Orchestra Competition, and owned the title of the Outstanding Team in the Non-Professional Wind Orchestra Exhibition of Jiangsu Province.

    The orchestra has actively taken part in nearly 100 performances on and off campus, and participated in the “High Art into Campus” activities sponsored by Jiangsu Provincial Education Department and Financial Department. The orchestra’s special concerts have been held in many universities such as Hohai University, Nanjing Agricultural University and Jiangsu University. At the same time, the orchestra has been invited to perform in the New Year Symphony Orchestra Concert of Jiangsu Province, the Symphony Orchestra Concert of Instrumental Music Union of the College Students Art Group of Jiangsu Province, and the “Salute to the National Flag” 2019 Jiangsu University Orchestra and Marching Band Show. Besides, the orchestra has performed in Jiangsu Centre for the Performing Arts, Nanjing Poly Theatre, Nanjing University of Arts Concert Hall, Zijin Grand Theatre and other places many times, which has shown the image of young NanjingTech students and received wide acclaim.

    At present, the Symphony Orchestra of Nanjing Tech University has gradually built-up to be a leading and nationally renowned college student art group, and will continue to bolster the university’s “Art and Aesthetics” project and contribute to setting up a high-level university campus cultural environment.
