Founded in December 2002, cooperating with Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and Jiangsu Provincial Sport Administration, Jiangsu Women’s Softball Team of Nanjing Tech University was regulated with the model of “combining education and sports, provincial team held by the universities” at that time. This model was further deepened after the 11th National Games when the university cooperated with Changzhou Municipal People’s Government to build another model of “team jointly held by province, university and city”. At present, it is a key and featured project of NanjingTech. The team members will be admitted to Nanjing Tech University as students after passing the National College Entrance Examination. The credit system and other accommodative student management models have been rationally used for athletes to help them solve the contradiction between learning and training, and to create favorable conditions for their employment after retirement. Among them, there are 1 Provincial Outstanding League Member, 1 Provincial Merit Student, 18 Nanjing “Woman Pace-setter”, and 14 university-level Outstanding League Members. Team members have won first, second and third scholarships several times as well. The team endeavors to become a brand sports team at the national or even world level through the management of Nanjing Tech University. With the support of the General Administration of Sport of China, Jiangsu Provincial Sport Administration, Nanjing Tech University and Changzhou Municipal People’s Government, there are 1 team leader, 2 deputy team leaders, 1 team manager, 1 head coach, 2 assistant coaches, 22 front-line athletes and 18 second-string athletes. In 2017, a total of 19 team members from Jiangsu women’s first-front and second-front softball teams were selected for the Chinese National Team and the China Youth Team. In 2005, the university was re-accredited by the Ministry of Education and General Administration of Sport of China as one of the 235 colleges and universities that can enroll high-level athletes including softball players. In 2006, the “China University Baseball and Softball Training Base” was set up in the university, and in April 2009, the “Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Special Contribution Award” was awarded to NanjingTech by the Chinese Softball Association. In May 2009, the Baseball and Softball Branch of the Federation of University Sports of Jiangsu Province was established in the university.
