Confucius Institute at the University of Zaragoza, Spain

The Confucius Institute at the University of Zaragoza in Spain (hereinafter referred to as CIUZ) was established in June 2017, with the cooperative institutions by Nanjing Tech University and the University of Zaragoza in Spain. It has achieved rapid and sustainable development in the four years since its establishment, in particular, the total number of registered paying students in 2021 will reach 1,486. In addition to the Zaragoza headquarters, there are also 3 teaching sites including British International Schools, Pamplona and Huesca. This has laid a solid foundation for the rapid development of Chinese language education in the major regions of northeastern Spain, and has become the leading Confucius Institute in Spain.

The CIUZ relies on the disciplines and faculty advantages of Sino-Spanish cooperative universities, and is committed to establishing a Confucius Institute featuring technological innovation and Chinese traditional music. In addition to serving as a disseminator of language and culture, the CIUZ has also assumed the responsibility for the Sino-Spanish education and science and technology exchanges. In recent years, it has facilitated over 15 exchanges of visits between Chinese and Spanish cooperative universities, Jiangsu Province, and Aragon, vigorously planned and promoted 9 Sino-Spanish international education and scientific research cooperation agreements. In particular, it contributed to the signing of the "Double Doctoral Degree Agreement" between Nanjing Tech University and the University of Zaragoza in September 2019. As consequence, the CIUZ has been making important contributions to the cooperation in the fields of education, scientific research and personnel training.

With regard to the characteristics of Chinese culture and arts, the CIUZ focuses on language and culture. It has established a professional-level Chinese traditional music class based on the advantages of the Confucius Institute’s faculty. In 2019, it cooperated with Nanjing Tech University and the University of Zaragoza, and had undertaken the Hanban micro-class project of the "Traditional Music and Poetry" series of courses. In May 2019, it successfully hosted the Spanish national final of the Chinese Bridge. The student of the CIUZ won the championship of the middle school student panel and represented Spain in Zhengzhou, China to participate in the global finals.

In summary, since its establishment, the CIUZ has held 79 scientific and technological and cultural activities, covering various cultural activities such as international exchanges, conference, academic seminars, art, cuisine, and music, attracting nearly 30,000 local people.
