Professor Jiang’s research activities are mainly focused on the bulk chemicals and biofuels production from waste lignocellulosic materials and CO2 off gases. Prof. Jiang has established an efficient platform to improve microbial strain’s performance combing microbial mutagenesis, adaptive evolution, metabolic engineering and construction of artificial microbial consortium to achieve direct utilization of low-cost lignocellulosic materials and industrial off gas with robust microbial strains. Moreover, he disclosed the regulation mechanism based on reducing factors of NADH and set up novel biosynthetic systems for bio-based C4 organic acid and alcohols production integrated with regulation of oxidation/reduction and membraned-based bio-processes, providing novel strategies for efficient bio-based bulk chemicals production.

Prof. Jiang has chaired more than 30 national and provincial research programs including the National Key R&D Program of China, National Natural Science Foundation of China (regional) cooperation and exchange projects (inter-organization cooperative research-NSFC-EU project), 973 and 863 projects, etc. He has published more than 300 SCI papers in Trends Biotechnol, ACS Synth Biol, Biotechnol Bioeng etc, 4 books and 3 book chapters. He has applied for 52 Chinese invention patents with 26 authorized patents, 1 US authorized patent and 1 US public patent. He also obtained 4 provincial and ministerial awards. He served as a guest associate editor of Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, and editorial board member of Journal of Bioengineering (in Chinese) and Synthetic Biology (in Chinese), etc.
