School of Transportation Science & Engineering (CTSE)

Departments & Institutions

CTSE was established in August 2010 with five departments, one teaching lab, and one center dedicated to teaching and research: geological engineering, transport engineering, underground engineering and railway engineering. CTSE offers bachelor degrees under five subjects: geological engineering, transport engineering, urban underground space engineering, railway engineering and Disaster Prevention & Mitigation Science and Engineering. In these five subjects, the Geological engineering specialty was developed from hydrogeology and engineering geology, a polytechnic subject established in 1953. It was shortlisted for Jiangsu Brand Specialties in 2006 and Jiangsu provincial key specialties in 2012. It was also selected into the Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Majors Construction Sites in 2019 and passed the accreditation of international engineering education in 2021. The transport engineering, established in 2002, originated from the civil engineering, a major established in 1999 which focuses on transport and civil engineering. It passed the international engineering education professional certification in 2018 and was approved as one of Jiangsu’s brand majors (Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Majors Construction Sites) in 2019, and was selected into the national first-class undergraduate majors construction site. The urban underground space engineering, set up in 2007, was developed  from the architectural engineering, a specialty established in 1995 dedicated to the geotechnical engineering. In 2012, it was approved as one of  the Jiangsu provincial key specialties, and was selected as a national first-class undergraduate majors construction site. In 2021, its application for international engineering education professional certification was accepted. The railway engineering established in 2018, is a major originating from the transport engineering (rail transit), a specialty established in 2011; The Disaster Prevention & Mitigation Science and Engineering is emergency-dealing major which was established and started enrolling in 2022.

Research Areas

CTSE has launched one doctoral program for second-level discipline of geotechnical engineering and two master programs for first-level disciplines of geological resources and geological engineering as well as transport engineering, respectively. The geotechnical engineering is a key discipline of Jiangsu Province (2006), and the geotechnical engineering has been shortlisted for the outstanding discipline echelon of Jiangsu Province. CTSE, similar to other schools, has a post-doctoral mobile station for civil engineering and launched a doctoral program and master program for doctors and masters of first-level discipline of civil engineering, and 2 master programs for masters of second-level discipline of bridge and tunnel building as well as disaster prevention & mitigation engineering and protection engineering. It has also been equipped with the granting authority of master's degree of civil water conservancy engineering, and the granting authority of master's degree of resources and environmental engineering. It was approved to open a doctoral program and master program for interdisciplinary smart city and intelligent transportation (jointly-funded) in 2018.

CTSE has five provincial-level and seven school-level discipline platforms among which includes provincial discipline platforms : Jiangsu Transportation Infrastructure Security Technology Engineering Research Center, Jiangsu Urban Underground Transport Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center Jiangsu Civil Engineering Earthquake Prevention Technology Research Center, Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Civil Engineering and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Jiangsu Provincial Civil Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center was co-established with the School of Civil Engineering and includes School-level discipline platforms: Geotechnical Engineering Research Institute, Urban Underground Space Engineering Research Center, Road Engineering Research Institute, Collaborative Innovation Center for Advanced Construction Technology of Underground Transport Engineering, Rail Transport, Bridge and Tunnel Research Center and Haixi Engineering Research Center. CTSE also has a comprehensive multi-scale testing platform for geotechnical statics, advanced testing and analysis center for physical and chemical properties of materials, and in-situ monitoring and testing equipment for geotechnical and traffic engineering, which has created good conditions for teaching experiments and scientific research.

Faculty

CTSE has 86 full-time faculty members, which includes 21 professors, 23 associate professors, 25 lecturers, and they are dedicated to the education of more than 1100 undergraduate students and 350 graduate students. CTSE also hires a group of well-known scholars, such as academicians, Changjiang scholars, and national outstanding youth fund winners as part-time professors.
