Overview

The School of Architecture of Nanjing Tech University (Nanjing Tech), formerly known as the Department of Architecture of Nanjing Architectural and Civil Engineering Institute, was founded in May 1985, and was renamed as the College of Architecture and Urban Planning in 2001, when   Nanjing University of Technology was established by merging Nanjing University of Chemical Technology and Nanjing Architectural and Civil Engineering Institute. In Aug. 2010, the College of Architecture and Urban Planning was renamed as the School of Architecture.

The School of Architecture offers now 4 undergraduate programs in the field of Architecture, which are Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Historic Building Protection Engineering. The School has 1 second-level discipline authorized to offer doctoral degree and master’s degree in Green Building Technology and Engineering, and also has 3 first-level disciplines authorized to offer master’s degree in Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning, and Landscape Architecture. About 300 undergraduate students and 100 postgraduate students are enrolled in the School every year.

The specialty of Architecture was established in 1985. In 2002, the undergraduate program (five-year) in Architecture passed national discipline-specific accreditation for the first time, and the university was authorized to offer the professional Bachelor's Degree of ArchitectureIn 2005, the specialty of Architecture was accredited as the Characteristic Specialty in Jiangsu Province.

In 2013, the postgraduate program in Urban Planning passed national discipline-specific accreditation for the first time, and the university was authorized to confer the Master of Urban Planning.

In 2020, the Program of Urban and Rural Planning was accredited as the National First-Class Undergraduate Program.

The specialty of Landscape Architecture was established in 2013, and offers the Bachelor's degree of Engineering. In 2021, the Program of Urban and Rural Planning was accredited as the Jiangsu Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program.

The second-level discipline of "Architectural Design and Arch. Design Theory" was authorized to offer a master’s degree in 2000. The second-level disciplines of "Architectural History and Theory" and "Urban Planning and Design" were authorized to offer a master’s degree in 2006. In 2010, the first-level discipline of "Architecture" was authorized to offer a master’s degree. In 2011, the first-level disciplines of "Architecture", "Urban and Rural Planning", and "Landscape Architecture" were authorized to offer a master’s degree. In 2012, "Green Building Technology and Engineering" was established independently as a subordinate of the first-level discipline of Civil Engineering and confers a doctoral degree.

The School of Architecture now has three departments (Architecture, Urban Planning, and Landscape and Environmental Art), eight teaching and research divisions, one provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration center (including 5 labs), six research institutes, and one library and information center.
